In-School Mentoring provides elementary school students who would benefit from extra social, emotional or academic support with a caring adult mentor. The mentor meets with the child one hour a week, on school property, during school hours to foster a positive and encouraging relationship. The program was created to help children gain confidence, improve skills and assist them in reaching their potential.
In-School Mentoring is an umbrella term for a number of different programs that we run to serve the students in our community schools:

1) ISM: Our traditional In-School Mentoring Program where students are matched to adult volunteer mentors. Students receive assistance with social, emotional, or academic goals. Most matches meet for one hour a week.
2) ESL ISM: English as a Second Language In-School Mentoring, where we work with local ESL/ELL Teachers to support students who are new to the country or who could use extra support learning English.
3) Strong Start®: BBBSKW partners with local schools to help implement the Strong Start® early literacy program. Our agency provides volunteers to the schools to assist in running the program.
4) Co-op ISM: Highschool co-op students are trained to be In-School Mentors and are able to serve up to eight children at a single school in each semester. Co-op students normally work one-to-one with two students each afternoon for four days a week.
